Vertebrate Collections

The Vertebrate collections represent a small (ca. 500 specimens) but growing collection of mostly bird and mammal study skins and wings, skeletons, and frozen whole specimens, primarily used for teaching.

Bird Strikes

Researchers in the ornithology collection at WCU study birds’ behavior in response to changing landscapes in campus architecture. This work is integral to designing buildings that coexist with birds and limit the number of bird-building collisions.
