Western Carolina is home to a premier collection of arthropods of the Southern Appalachians. The Arthropod collection was started by WCU Professor Emeritus and eminent arachnologist, Dr. Fred Coyle. The collections are now curated by beetle expert, Dr. Luiz Lima da Silveira, who is rapidly expanding the research collections with new accessions from the Southern Appalachians.
